Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 208 (FMVSS 208) in the USA requires the risk of injury to the front passenger associated with the release of the airbag to be minimized. The weighing technology that controls the airbag's deployment according to the person's weight satisfies this statutory obligation. The core component of the Occupant Classification System (OCS) developed in this context is the BAGsensor, an intelligent weight-sensing solution. Four of these sensors are integrated in the seat chassis, so that the weight of the passenger and the distribution of the weight on the seat are measured at four points.
